Hi, I'm Katie Dunnigan. I am a Registered Psychotherapist in Burlington, Ontario with over 10 years experience.

I specialize in treating eating disorders, depression, anxiety, and stress using a specific process that is rooted in transpersonal therapy, mindfulness therapy, and humanistic therapy. It is for people who are ready to free themselves from symptoms by slowing down and looking within.

I believe that full healing is possible.  I began this work after finding my own healing using the same process. See below to learn more about my personal story healing from an eating disorder and other mental health concerns....

My Story of Healing:

For over 10 years I struggled with a severe eating disorder, depression, anxiety, and identity issues. I had no understanding of how to process emotions, and my unhealthy thoughts controlled every aspect of my life. I tried a variety of therapists, psychologists, group programs, and self-help books, but my issues didn't budge.

In 2008 I connected with the late therapist and spiritual teacher, Viola Fodor. It was the first time I had met someone who had fully healed from her own mental health issues, and I was intrigued. I knew that my symptoms were caused by something much deeper, but I wasn't sure what what going on or how to address it. Viola taught me how to train my mind to quiet down, and how to open a deeper type of awareness that shifts our perception of life. She showed me how to connect to my true self, which I didn't even know existed. She also taught me about introspection, intuition, acceptance, processing emotions, learning through life, patience, honesty, trust, and more. As I woke up to who I was deep inside, my symptoms began to disappear and I experienced a sense of well-being that was completely new to me.

I remained connected to Viola as I returned to school to complete my Masters in Counselling Psychology and began working in the non-profit mental health and addictions system. I trained under her guidance and remained close to her until her death in 2020. Viola was a truly awakened being and our connection inspired me to continue learning from other teachers including Eckhart Tolle, Adyashanti, Byron Katie, Piero Ferrucci, Rupert Spira, and more. I came to understand that many spiritual people teach the same message in different words: that we are more than our thoughts, emotions, and behaviours; that there is a part of us that is whole, wise, loving, and connected; and that this "self" or "awareness" has the capacity to guide us through life's challenges so that we can grow and evolve.

My work is rooted in true mindfulness therapy and transpersonal therapy practices. It isn't about intellectual techniques. It is a way of being and a way of seeing that changes everything. I teach people how to slow down, become present, open their awareness, and live as their most authentic selves. I believe that we can move beyond coping strategies and into a state of full healing. While we cannot avoid the emotions and experiences that make us human, we can learn how to turn inward and use our awareness to guide us along our life path without abandoning ourselves. This is what it means to do our inner work.
